Contact Impro Basics

Miriam Bovenschen

About the class

The class offers an opportunity to learn about contact improvisation and gain initial experience in free dancing. We will explore the basic principles of contact improvisation, such as leaning, weight sharing, leading and following, tension and relaxation. We will also look at techniques that can be helpful in dance and different qualities of touch. The content of the lessons will be tailored to the needs and requirements of the group.

The class is based on the behavioural principles of consent and conscious awareness of one's own boundaries and those of others, as well as respectful interaction with them. Since contact improvisation can be physically and emotionally challenging, there is room for breaks and verbal exchange.

The course is open to anyone who has little or no experience with contact improvisation.
You are not welcome in this course if you do not reject racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or other exclusionary behaviour.

In order to create a safe space together, and also due to the limited number of places, a trial lesson is possible, after which participation in the entire course is binding.

If the cost is a problem for you, please write to me.
In each course cycle, I try to offer a solidarity place if possible.
