Profitraining with Kate Slezak

About the Training
Contemporary dance technique, improvisation, and performance practice
Moving through a series of combinations and choreographies from contemporary dance styles that emphasize release, spiral, and somatic focus, we will warm up our bodies by moving in and out of the floor, dropping into and sensing our weight, and traveling through space. Aiming to activate mobility and sensation, build a connection to the floor, and hone our attention to rhythm, this week’s class is oriented toward rewarding the body with energy, ease, and creative impulse.
Improvisational structures and exercises for performative practice will be integrated throughout the week as we explore the dancing body beyond technique. These exercises are designed to create space for improvisational performance, where we will practice sharpening, trusting, and acting on our compositional instincts to create in real-time, both as individuals and as a group.
